The Customer Channels Group serves biotech, pharmaceutical, academic, government, industrial and healthcare customers by providing them with products manufactured by our company as well as those sourced from other industry-leading suppliers around the world. We keep science moving forward by offering more than 2.5 million products globally, including lab consumables, instruments and equipment, safety products, chemicals and life sciences reagents. This position will report to the VP, NA Distribution Operations and will be located at a site in Nazareth, PA, Hanover Park, IL or Atlanta, GA.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Area Director, Distribution Operations is responsible for providing a high quality service offering to a multi-division customer base via multi-site distribution network consisting of fifteen (15) core locations. This is accomplished through leadership and support of internal operating standards that drive efficiency, employee satisfaction, regulatory compliance and the desired return. Distribution Center profile includes a broad product offering, hazardous / non-hazardous materials and ambient / temperature controlled products in a 201Cpick and pack201D environment.
Key Responsibilities:
* Leads and directs staff; interviews, hires, trains, motivates, develops, coaches, and evaluates team members to improve execution of the planned activities and maximize results. Role models in a manner that is consistent with our organizational culture, which is based on four corporate values (integrity, intensity, innovation, involvement). Promotes a friendly environment, good morale and cooperation among team members. Develops and delivers timely performance reviews to direct staff to ensure goal optimization. Disciplines and terminates, as needed with Human Resources2019 approval.
* Oversees and directs the operations of several distribution facilities (6 to 8); supports service offerings that consistently meet customer requirements through the support of various operational standards: Cost, Quality, Service and Safety
* Participates in the development, implementation and maintenance of an effective regional strategy, focused on customer satisfaction and controlling costs through efficiency gains. Takes knowledgeable risks; re-engineers processes that support the customer and cost structure; drives quality processes that lead to continuous improvements.
* Creates and maintains a budget, assuring the target objectives are achieved within planned expenses. Functions as the Gatekeeper, from the perspective of expense, service, quality and profitability. Monitors, reports and controls all expenses and asset lines to insure plans and targets are achieved. Uses matrix to positively affect region performance (inbound, inventory planning, Finance, Transportation), such as:
* Expense as a % to sales (leverage) and cost per line (variable / fixed)
* Inventory Management and Control both directly and through matrix (i.e. Excess, No move, Shrinkage, Expired, Inbound)
* Asset plan performance (Inventory Turns)
* Labor cost controls, flexible workforce and utilization (FTE's, P.T., O.T, Agency Temps)
* Develops, deploys, and maintains a safety plan for all facilities
* Maintain 100% compliance with EH&S training programs
* Ensures that each facility remains union-free by proactively developing employees and establishing a two-way, open communications environment. Embraces the Performance Management & Development process, ensuring that all team members are evaluated in a timely manner and have an opportunity to hold a career development discussion with their manager. Establishes both formal and informal communications plan in each facility. Commits to and ensures operational excellence and 100% compliance for all required training.
* Support all regulatory (i.e. FDA, Med Device, VAWD, DOT, IATA, etc.) and certified operating (i.e. cGDP, ISO, etc.) compliance
* Ensures that all legal requirements, including Export Compliance and Sarbanes and Oxley are met.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor2019s Degree in Supply Chain, Operations Management, Business Administration or a related field.
* 10+ years of progressive distribution experience, including at least 5 years in a multi-site distribution environment. Managed multiple sites and/or had 201Cbig box201D experience managing a facility of 250,000+ SF.
* Lean Six Sigma, PPI Business System experience
* Experience in the 3 phases of the lifecycle of a distribution center: 1) stabilized a facility (possibility during a startup), 2) optimized (increased the key performance metrics), and 3) implemented innovation (improved the process flow to improve cost, quality, and service).
* Proven experience in implementing change (from a cultural perspective) while being sensitive to the history and accomplishments of the organization.
* Ability to travel 50% of the time.
* Strong leadership - recruit and retain top-notch team members by coaching, motivating, and developing them. Must be results-orientated with a high sense of urgency.
* Solid interpersonal and persuasion skills, work within a cross-functional team environment, and be able to influence others.
* Analytical qualities - plan, organize, and set priorities for the operation. Make sound decisions, and meet or exceed operational goals.
* Excellent presentational, oral, and written communication skills - present and document ideas and strategic direction to various levels of the organization and to work collaborative with other teams
* Proficient in MS Access, Excel, Word and PowerPoint. Must be able to learn to utilize statistical software, if required.
