UP Health System - Bell
Collects and processes blood specimens for testing in the laboratory.
Labels, processes and delivers specimens for testing.
Collects blood specimens using age-appropriate techniques.
Maintains equipment and medical supplies.
Follow established policies and procedures, objects, safety standards, and sensitivity to confidential information.
Willing and able to demonstrate appropriate core competencies annually or as requested.
Properly collects adequate samples for tests which have been ordered.
Instructs students in proper phlebotomy technique.
Provides patients with proper instructions/information regarding specimen requirements.
Verifies that collected specimens correctly correspond to the tests which have been ordered.
Maintains appropriate files/logs for department regarding tests which are ordered, specimens which are obtained, etc.
Routes telephone calls appropriately.
Schedules patient appointments and provides correct information to patients.
Enters charges into the computer system for all tests performed.
Performs clerical functions as necessary or as directed.
Maintains confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
Support the culture of service excellence throughout the organization.
Actively seek ways to demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement and participate in professional development opportunities.
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Completes annual educational requirements.
Understands and adheres to Bell's compliance standards as they appear in Bell's Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.
Computer and/or keyboarding skills required. Excellent human relations and oral/written communication. Excellent organizational abilities. Demonstrated teamwork skills. Ability to deal with change. Demonstrates a positive attitude towards initiating continuous improvement. Ability to respond appropriately even in challenging situations. Ability to work without direct supervision.
Job Requirements
Minimum Education High school diploma or equivalent Preferred X Required
Other Instruction in a structured program or certification or one (1) year of phlebotomy experience in a hospital setting. Preferred X Required
Required Skills Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Licenses: Certificate of Phlebotomy

Our Health Support Center (HSC), in Brentwood, Tennessee, has subject matter expertise in every area of healthcare operations and provider services. The HSC is organized to bring resources to bear across the continuum of care, from before a patient accesses healthcare services to after they are sent home, while keeping quality and compliance at the center.
