POSITION SUMMARY:

The Pharmacist provides administrative and Pharmaceutical tasks for the Pharmacy Department; supervises the pharmacy technicians in unit; does distribution system for specific hospital units and medication unit inspections; participates in multi-disciplinary patient care plans; assists in the control, ordering and wastage of controlled substances; assists in the day-to-day operations involved with the Med/Select system, maintains an optimal level of pharmaceutical inventory through application of effective purchasing procedures with the appropriate contract vendors; develops and maintains external contacts which include medical service representatives from pharmaceutical companies, medical supply companies, professional peers from other Kansas hospitals, local retail outlets, programmers from pharmacy computer support system and state and federal certification inspectors; adheres to department policies and procedures which conform to state, federal and Joint Commission regulations; performs specific activities required to properly prepare and distribute medications in a timely manner; reviews and interprets physician orders for completeness and appropriateness with respect to the patient's needs; accurately prepares injectable drugs for patient administration; assures accurate delivery of needed medications; provides information, education and counseling to patients, physicians, nurses, pharmacy staff, ancillary hospital care providers and the community relating to medications and the practice of pharmacy; displays comprehensive knowledge of, and conforms to, hospital policies and procedures as well as state and federal pharmacy regulations; maintains required compliance documentation; is proactively involved in monitoring patient response to therapy for efficacy, adverse effects, and drug interactions; interacts with the physician to develop sound therapeutic regimens; recommends therapy protocols for specific disease entities; promotes positive customer relations and actively contributes to a supportive and cooperative work environment; protects health and safety of staff by proper handling of chemicals and drugs; acts as a resource for the maintenance and upgrade of the pharmacy software system; and performs other related duties as assigned. The Staff Pharmacist facilitates the development, implementation, and maintenance of systems that promote desirable patient outcomes through safe, appropriate, cost-effective drug therapies. In the absence of the director of pharmacy, a staff pharmacist may be required to assume the essential responsibilities and perform the duties of the director of pharmacy.

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience Required: BS Pharmacy or Pharm D

1-2 years hospital pharmacy experience preferred

License: Currently licensed to practice pharmacy in the state of Kansas or eligible to obtain license

Education: Graduate of an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy or equivalent

Certifications: Basic Life Saving required within 2 months of start date
