Scope of Position:
Position requires strong technical understanding across many disciplines, leadership, process understanding, and the ability to engage with many principles. As part of a global team, this position will provide Control System Engineering Design solutions to Corning’s business to deliver best in class product to our customers.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
Provide technical leadership and expertise to design, develop, and deploy Control System Engineering Design solutions to global manufacturing facilities
Responsible for initial concepts, design, development, testing, and deployment of Advanced Process Power Control Algorithms, Advanced Distributed Control System DCS integration, Software, and Hardware. Specify unique control algorithms and products used to produce glass, ceramic, and advanced life science products for our company.
Participate in all phases of projects including design, development, vendor integration and testing, installation, production start-up support, training of plant personnel, and technology transfer.
Quickly resolve technical and contractual issues by good engineering practices, High level of technical expertise and hands-on tool & instrumentation experience to personally debug and solve issues.
Network design with Dual Ring Redundancy managed switch configuration experience for robust manufacturing system
Operation Technology (OT) data management and Data Analytics for Digital Transformation
Integrate Advanced Control Concepts using MATLAB, Simulink, other methods into plant floor control systems
Design Safety Control Systems to meet requirements of Risk Assessment, SISTEMA safety performance level requirements, and Guardian PLd level of machine safety
Interface with external system integrators and machine builders to successfully deliver fully integrated process equipment and systems including data collection.
Provide leadership in the construction, testing, installation, and debug of control systems at domestic and international manufacturing sites.
Work closely with Technology Development, Manufacturing, Division Engineering, and IT to industrialize and standardize equipment.
Ensure software architectures provide consistent data flow, tracking, and reporting
Adhere to the Software Coding Standard, standard software architectures, and system integration requirements to satisfy process and manufacturing requirements
Generate and interpret electrical drawings for system design including control panel layouts, component documentation, and schematics. Prepare initial CAD design layouts of complete electrical controls systems and control sub-sections. Review electrical drawing packages for conformance to Corning standards.
Provide troubleshooting support for equipment and process issues during equipment installation and start-up phases, identify root cause and implement corrective actions.
Ensure proactive safety measures for all equipment and processes. Identify and correct potential safety or environmental issues using NEC, NFPA, ISO and other pertinent safety codes. Ensure safety procedures, such as Lock-Out Tag-Out, are always followed.
Create/update documentation for release to production including machine specifications, operating procedures, and drawing packages.
Train engineering, maintenance and operations people how to use and maintain systems.
Visibly support the establishment and maintenance of a safe work environment.

Required Skills:
Control system programming skills including PLC logic, motion control, safety devices, high level languages.
Experience integrating field devices including SCR, flow control, material handling, metering, motion control, temperature control, flow control, and associated safety systems into an overall systems package enabling a fully functional equipment platform
Electrical system design including control panel layouts, component selection, and schematics
Advanced Process Control Algorithms
Advanced Distributed Control System DCS integration
MATLAB, Simulink, other advanced control development methods
