Job Description

The Sequenom division of LabCorp has an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Health & Safety Specialist/Site Officer. This position will lead the effort to eliminate, prevent, or reduce the occurrence of safety, health, medical and environmental issues at our San Diego site. This position will also facilitate the development and maintenance of behaviors, attitudes and a safety culture that supports the goals of the Sequenom's EH&S programs. The Ideal candidate will provide guidance and technical expertise on compliance requirements with all applicable federal, state, and local safety, health and environmental regulations. This position acts as the interface with government agencies including: Environmental Protection Agency, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the California Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the California Department of Environmental Protection, and local authorities. Previous experience supporting EH&S within a biotech and laboratory environment is highly desired.

Responsibilities include:

* Manage Hazardous Waste, Medical Waste, and Universal Waste disposal program, including all segregation, labeling, profiling, manifesting, hazardous waste training, medical waste training, universal waste training and internal tracking, coordinating lab pack scheduling and supplies via Stericycle.
* Chemical and Biological Spill Response- Responding to cleaning up small chemical and biological spills.
* Replenish First Aid Kits. Shop, Order and stock
* Complete and submit all EH&S Regulatory Reports to required regulatory agencies, including Hazardous Materials Business Plan. CUPA, City of San Diego Fire-Rescue Dept., City of San Diego MWD, DTSC, EPA, DOT, OSHA, CalOSHA, APCD, etc.
* Prepare for annual EH&S Regulatory Site Inspections and follow ups. County of San Diego Environmental Health Department Hazardous Materials Division. City of San Diego Fire --Rescue Department.
* Prepare for periodic CAP/ISO audits and follow ups, ISO Committee Meetings.
* Attend biweekly Corporate EH&S Officer Meetings.
* Safety Data Sheets -- Implementation, chemical inventory and management of LabCorp 3E Protect via OneWorld.
* Perform Risk Assessments with all departments to determine the potential hazards of new processes and projects (capital projects and others) and ensure that all applicable Federal, State, and Local regulations, along with industry standards, (ANSI, NFPA, ACGIH) are followed.
* Coordinate and perform New Hire Orientation training covering CalOSHA IIPP Program (emergency response, etc) and new hire EH&S documentation. Uploading EH&S training courses in LEaD
* Perform Ergonomic Assessments (documentation, shop, research, and submit purchase request for ergo equipment, place Facilities Request for ergo furniture, follow up ergo assessment after all ergo equipment is installed and ordered).
* Lead and Coordinate the Safety Committee (coordinate day/time, room, invites, agenda (powerpoint), food/drinks. Create minutes, complete minutes with all closing questions form safety committee members, forward to sign off from Medical Director.
* Perform Sequenom Quarterly Safety Audits with 3rd party vendor (ISO and CAP required) and follow-ups.
* Perform LabCorp Monthly Safety Audits and follow-ups. Submit in DataPipe.
* Annual Noise Survey. Industrial Hygiene via noise meter, generate report.
* Incident & Injury Investigation Reports investigative, document, corrective actions, medical authorization (via Concentra), DataPipe system, OSHA300 and OSHA 300A logs.
* Workers Compensation and Work Injury Status Follow-Up (Broadspire, Concentra)
* Attend biweekly Corporate EH&S Officer Meetings. And follow ups
* Attend Metric Meetings on a quarterly basis.
* Sequenom and LabCorp SOP review, edit, development, gap analysis (via MasterControl, weekly corporate meetings). (Review, edit, develop, update, and manage all Sequenom EH&S SOPs in MasterControl system) (Review, edit, perform gap analysis of all EH&S LabCorp SOPs).
* Manage Hepatitis B program, documentation, medical authorization and follow up.

Requirements

* Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health, or an equivalent field.
* Certified Safety Professional required
* 5+ years of work experience in Environmental Health and Safety
* Previous experience working in a clean room or laboratory environment desired
* Biotech or Life Sciences Industry experience highly preferred
* Ability to climb ladders and lift up to 50 pounds
* Strong knowledge of Hazardous Waste procedures, and local, state and federal regulatory requirements
* Ability to remain up to date on current and proposed regulations and evaluate the impact for the company

Core hours are Mon-Fri 1st shift. Some work may be required on weekends or during 2nd and 3rd shifts as needed.
