POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting directly to the Administrative Director of Radiology, directs and manages daily technical operations of department. Supervises technical and various support personnel. Technical areas include Diagnostic Radiology, Computed Tomography, Mammography, Special Procedures, MRI and Ultrasound. The Operations Manager will provided leadership to and collaborate with the various Section Heads. The supervisors of the above areas will report to the Operations Manager. This individual will participate in the development of departmental policies and procedures and assure that departmental operations are in compliance with established Medical Center and regulatory standards. This position will have shared financial responsibilities with the various Section Heads.
This individual must maintain critical thinking skills for conflict resolution, service line issues, and statistical data interpretation. Must be able to collaborate and effectively communicate with physicians, department staff and other health care professionals.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises:
* Section Heads, staff technologists, and technologist aides.
Works collaboratively with:
* All department leadership, physicians and staff.
Relationships:
* Patients, family, visitors, staff, physicians, vendors and service personnel.
Authority:
* Has the authority to implement policy and procedure changes, performance evaluations, make scheduling changes for patients and personnel.
* Has the authority to recruit, coach, and discipline and discharge employees in cooperation with Administrative Director and Human Resources.
* Has the authority to develop and implement staff schedules to meet the needs of the department within existing fiscal constraints.
* Has the authority and responsibility for assisting in directing and supervising the activities and functions of the department.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
* Provides superior customer service to internal and external clients, customers, and patients as referenced in the Service Excellence Standards."
* Select, develop, and evaluate technical staff in each area of responsibility in cooperation with Section Head positions.
* Direct development and enforcement of departmental policies and procedures.
* Assures compliance with regulatory agencies (JCAHO, DPH, NRC, MWRA, etc.)
* Assist in the development of institution wide policies and the maintenance of records and controls for areas of responsibility.
* Assures employees meet all orientation and competency standards as appropriate for position.
* Participates in regularly scheduled departmental meetings.
* Assists with development and justification of annual budget and maintaining positive variances.
* Maintain and report statistical data regarding service volume trends.
* Oversees and authorizes departmental payroll, clinical employee evaluations, and schedules.
* Oversee and authorize purchasing activities within the contraints of the budget.
* Communicates effectively with other hospital departments.
* Assists the administrative director with the preparation of reports for all areas of responsibility.
* Chairs meetings and directs projects within the department.
* Complete on-going performance improvement for all operational activities of the department.
* Develop skills of all staff personnel.
* Propose mechanisms for cost reduction in salaries and wages, supplies and other major expense areas.
* Evaluate new products and equipment for use within the department. Recommend purchases and justify as appropriate
* Provide oversite to equipment replacement and construction projects, working effectively with technology vendors, architects and contractors.
* In collaboration with the Section Heads, develop appropriate work schedules of technologists and support staff and maintain those schedules on the Radiology Shared Drive.
* Understands the corporate goals and objectives and helps develop a departmental plan, in conjunction with the administrative director, complete wiht long and short term goals.
* Assures corporate and department fiscal, operational and quality information is effectively communicated to department staff.
* Demonstrates the ability to perform multiple tasks as required.
* Supports and facilitates the process of providing information to the administrative director and team members.
* Demonstrates proficient and economic use of supplies, communication equipment, technical equipment and computer technologies.
* Assists team members in grounding efforts in the objectives of the organization (services that are free from error, efficient, connected to the customer and well planned).

* Works closely with scheduling to insure departmental schedules are maximized.
* Participates in multi-disciplinary Performance Improvement projects and in department Quality Improvement Program.
* In collaboration with the Administrative Director, gathers and interprets data to support the departmental scorecard and provide insite to performance improvement.
* Maintain the ability for remote connectivity to hospital files / HIS-RIS through IT Citrix.
* On an informal basis, be available on off hours for staff or hospital administration support.
* Performs literature and web searches and analysis to assist with staff education and improve services.
Reporting Requirements:
* Reports to the Administrative Director any quality issues related to operations requiring his/her and/or the medical staff consideration and/or action.
* Reports serious incidents and/or breaches in the quality of care to the administrative director.
* Reports any unusual occurrences related to patients, other staff, self or equipment.
